Our Standards
How every page on this site is researched, written, and reviewed.
This page explains who writes the dental content on this site, who reviews it, which sources we cite, and how we handle corrections. It is here so you can judge the material instead of taking it on faith.
Authorship
Every article on this site is published under the byline of Dr. Pia Lieb, DDS, the practicing cosmetic dentist at Cosmetic Dentistry NYC and the creator of The Dr. Pia Method™.
Her subject areas are the ones she treats: cosmetic dentistry, including porcelain veneers, no-prep and no-drill veneers, smile design, gum contouring, crowns, and professional whitening, together with the preventive and restorative dentistry that supports that work, including checkups, cleanings, gum health, bruxism and night guards, and tooth repair. Material outside those areas does not carry her byline.
Her background is on the About Dr. Pia page, her clinical approach on The Dr. Pia Method, and the wider practice on Meet Our Team.
We do not currently publish guest posts or outside contributor articles. If that changes, the contributor will be named on the page, their credentials stated, and any commercial relationship disclosed in the same place.
Sourcing
When an article makes a general dental or public health claim, we link to the organization that published the underlying guidance rather than to a secondary write-up of it. These are the bodies we cite most often, and what we cite them for.
Professional guidance on fluoride, interdental cleaning, powered versus manual brushing, whitening, and product claims.
Plain-language patient guidance on whitening, bruxism, mouthwash, and extraction aftercare.
Population-level data on tooth decay, periodontal disease, and untreated oral infection.
Clearance status of dental devices and diagnostic software.
Clinical technique, sequencing, and material choices described on treatment pages come from Dr. Lieb’s own practice rather than from a published source, and they are written as her approach, not as a universal standard. Where the evidence is genuinely mixed, the article says so instead of picking the tidier answer.
Accuracy
Every article carries a visible publication date. That date changes only when the article itself has been substantively updated, meaning the guidance, the sources, or the clinical detail changed. We do not refresh a date to make old material look new.
If you find something here that is wrong, out of date, or unclear, tell us and we will look at it. Email hello@doctorpia.com or call 212-829-1515 with the page address and what you believe is incorrect.
No page publishes under Dr. Lieb’s name until she has reviewed it for clinical accuracy.
Scope
Everything published here is general education. It is written to help you understand a treatment, a symptom, or a decision well enough to ask better questions. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for an in-person examination.
No article can tell you what your teeth need. That takes an exam, imaging where appropriate, and a conversation about your history and your goals. If something you read here seems to apply to you, bring it to an appointment.
Dental pain with facial swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing or breathing is urgent. Seek care immediately instead of reading about it.

Bring it to a consultation and get an answer about your teeth, not teeth in general.
